Izzat Ghoneim

An Egyptian lawyer and human rights activist who defended prisoners of conscience regularly. He was arrested on 1 March 2018 in Al-Ahram area for prosecution in a terror related case. The court decided to release him in September 2018, and his family was able to visit him before his planned release, only for him to forcibly disappear for 5 months before appearing in a court hearing on 9 February 2019. He remains under arrest since then, facing baseless charges related to joining a terrorist group.
