Academic and writer diagnosed with terminal cancer before his arrest. Worked as a university professor and published a number of books on modern islamic culture and community which led to a number of Ted talks that launched his online popularity. He was later given a permanent community and opinion column in the Youm (Today) newspaper. He later started writing about women's' right to drive and developed a strong friendship with Salman AlOdah and developed the Islamic Renaissance Forum which was held 3 years in a row before being canceled and condemned as an extremist propaganda effort by forces trying to harm and undermine government rule. Was released in march 2018
